Photographing Bull Moose in Denali

Caddy, Chris Grupenhof

On our recent trip to Denali Alaska we spotted several Bull Moose on a 5 mile stretch of Denali Hwy. We ditched the car and headed down a riverbed trying to stay downwind. We got within 100yards before we were busted. I was able snap a few pics of these HUGE beasts who had just shed their velvet! The following pics are for scale to see the vastness of such a beautiful landscape.

There are 2 Bull Moose within the red circle. The river bottom just below in the trees was our plan.

There are no trails in Denali. The brush in the foreground is about 5 feet tall, filled with berries and BEAR! Definitely river bottom!

This was my favorite pic. :) Printed and wrapped on foam board.

Snagged a few more shots while hiking out...

Would've love to hangout out in this cove for a few days and get some closer shots but the weather was not in my favor that day. Besides, Alaska is to damn big to just sit in one spot!
